In July 2001 I was lucky enough to spend a week with the Calvert Trust in Kielder, Northumbria. Although the centre is mainly concerned with outdoor activities, it also offers facilities for respite patients, like me. I had a wonderful week, and it was well worth the recovery time afterwards!
This was my bedroom, with en-suite shower and toilet. The bed was electrically adjustable.

Along the right-hand wall of the lounge was a pretty mural showing all the local wildlife:
The dining room was open all day for tea and coffee, and served the most wonderful meals!

The best activity in my opinion was the visit to Kielder Birds of Prey centre. We met a wonderfully grumpy eagle owl chick:
and I had a barn owl fly to me and perch on my hand!
At the end of the week, my husband arrived to drive me home. En route we thought we'd accidentally stumbled on the set for the 'Wizard of Oz':
